You can never have too many . . .

13 April, 2015

I bet you hear it all the time, you can never have too many pets. Be it horses, dogs, cats or any other type of pet, one is never enough! And the same goes for camera gear, so which piece of equipment joined my collection this time you ask? A new lens of course!

While everyone was at the Boxing Day sales at the end of last year, I was sitting at my computer deciding whether or not I should purchase a new lens. This one in particular I had been eying for a while now, and I knew the camera store I purchase all my camera gear from has a sale between Christmas and New Years so I waited. And sure enough I was right!

And of course I bought it, a brand new macro lens! This beauty of a lens can get very close to subjects to capture detailed images not achievable by standard lenses. I will be using this as an all rounder portrait lens as well as using it on pets for close-up detailed shots of larger animals and full body shots of smaller animals.

Although I purchased the lens late last year I only received it in late January, just before Melbourne Royal Horse Show, and used it for the FIRST TIME today! A full 5 months later and I haven't touched this lens except to put it into its protective sleeve. I have been a very busy bee jumping from one horse show to another.

Here are a few photos I took to put the lens through its paces and I have to admit, it was worth every dollar.

This should tie me over until next year. Every time I purchase a new lens I think to myself this is it. Then of course I want to try something new with photography, and my motto is "If I do something I am going to do it right", so for that I need a new lens! Sounds like buying horses . . . just . . . one . . . more . . .
