It is becoming a bit of a tradition to spend long weekends with beautiful
horses and good company, but who is complaining?
Bianca is a long-time friend of mine going back more than 17 years. If it wasn't
for her I may not be where I am today photographing the most majestic and versatile
creatures on Earth, horses. Up until recently her parents resided in Cattai but
a change of scenery was in order and this time last year they moved to
Beechwood on the outskirts of Wauchope.
Bianca and I made our way to Beechwood on the Thursday before the long weekend
of October after I had photographed the latest dogs at the shelter. After a
slight detour to a stunning property for a private photo session (blog post to
follow) we made the drive up. As we arrived after dark I didn't know the
scenery around me which added to the suspense.
On the Friday morning I awoke to a stunning property, if not my dream property!
The three resident horses have access to just about all of the 20 acres for
grazing plus their own secret meadow and tree-lined river!
The next four days were filled with swimming, photographing, sleeping and relaxing.
I had the chance to try out some new photographic techniques on both the horses
and dogs which I am very happy with. Here are just a few images, you can view more on
my Facebook page and Instagram account.
On the public holiday Monday I was treated to lunch at Port Macquarie with
Bianca and her parents followed by a yummy ice cream dessert. We stopped at the
beach while we were there and just in time to see some playful whales in the
distance! Unfortunately too far for my camera lens to reach as they were almost
specks in the horizon but still amazing to witness.
The drive home on Tuesday was sad, neither I nor Bianca wanted to leave but
work and University were calling. As I sit here writing this blog post I am
already planning our next trip and can't wait until I can sit in the little
meadow with horses grazing around me listening to the birds singing all around
me.
