It has been one month since young Olivia Inglis was involved in a tragic riding accident at the Scone Horse Trials. Although local to Sydney the news of her accident reached all corners of the globe with many in the equine community banding together to help create a wonderful mosaic piece of artwork for the Inglis family. The hashtag #RideForOlivia was used hundreds of thousands of times with my image "Fly Free, Fly High" viewed by just under 500,000 people alone.
Although I did not know the Inglis family personally I was saddened to hear of the accident. I had photographed Olivia in the 2** cross country only two weeks earlier and decided to create an image for her family and friends online which could be shared.
Over the 3 years I have been photographing at horse shows and events there have only been a handful of falls, most people and horses have walked away unhurt with one being taken to hospital but recovered in time. Horse riding is an enjoyable sport full of friendship and fun, but we must always be aware of the risks. Yes people will tell us, "You knew the risks before getting on a horse!" with my response being, "You know the risks of driving yet you get in the car everyday.".
Rest in peace beautiful Olivia and your steed Coriolanus.
