Lisa and her beautiful German Shepherd, Indigo, joined me for a photo session at a new-to-me location, William Howe Regional Park in Mount Annan. I had spotted the park on Google Maps and thought it looked promising, so after a bit of virtual scouting, we gave it a go. It turned out to be a fantastic choice, with a great mix of open areas, bushland and beautiful views of the sky. I’ll definitely be adding this spot to my regular list of session locations.
Lisa had mentioned ahead of time that while she wanted to be in the photos, she wasn’t overly keen on being the main focus or doing lots of direct-to-camera smiling. With that in mind, we kept things relaxed and natural, focusing on genuine moments between her and Indigo. Some gentle interaction, a few walking shots, and quiet still moments with Indigo leaning in or sitting beside her helped capture their bond in a way that felt comfortable and authentic.
We also made time for individual portraits of Indigo on her own. Like most German Shepherds, she had a steady presence and was happy to sit and focus when asked. The changing light throughout the session gave us some variety, starting with soft afternoon light and finishing with a golden sunset that lit up the horizon behind them.
At the viewing and ordering appointment, Lisa selected the ten digital file package, choosing a mix of portraits of Indigo solo and a few favourites of the two of them together.
This session was a great reminder that you don’t need to be front and centre or smiling in every photo to be part of the story. Sometimes the quiet, simple moments say the most.
