Happy birthday to all the horses out there! Although I have no horses myself to celebrate the Horses Birthday with, I had a weekend filled with equine photography.
On Saturday I made my way to Glenworth Valley Outdoor Adventures who were holding a Horses Birthday Party. Throughout the day there were a wide variety of activities and presentations, but the highlight for me was the afternoon running of the horses. A new paddock had been seeded ready for grazing, and the horses couldn't wait to start! People of all age groups made their way to the river crossing and once we were all standing a safe distance away the horses were released. The ground shook and it sounded like thunder was rolling down the valley, then the herd came to a halt. Who would be the first to dip their hoof into the water? After a few seconds one bay horse made the leap and the race was on again, a nice green grassy paddock was waiting! Here is just one of the photos I captured. I hope to make my way down there again next year to photograph it again.
Sunday brought another day filled with horses at the Australiana Pioneer Village. This was my first time visiting the Village and I was blown away at how authentic it was. Such a picturesque location with beautiful old houses complete with a horse drawn cart. Throughout the day there were shows and performances from the local riding club, Light Horse Brigade and a trick donkey! Plus each horse that attended was allowed to munch on the birthday “cake” made from a bale of hay and carrots.
I was invited to have a stall set up exhibiting my photographs and photographic session information along with copied of the latest editions of Hills & Hawkesbury Equestrian News. It was a successful day with many people visiting the stall to ask questions and view my photos.
All up it was a weekend well spent interacting with horses and the humans who love them.
