At the end of last year, I had the pleasure of photographing two handsome Boxers, Gus and Benny, at the picturesque Fagan Park. Gus, a dignified 4-year-old, and Benny, an energetic 5-month-old puppy, had an absolute blast at their session, and were such good boys posing for the camera.
We began our session in the Mediterranean Garden, starting with individual portraits of the dogs on the beautiful sandstone steps. Benny was first, as Gus was a little puffed from walking through half the park to our first session spot, but after catching his breath he was ready to roll. I always love including owners in my sessions, so after a group image of Gus and Benny together I captured some family portraits too.
Next, we moved to a patch of grass next to the garden for another round of individual shots. The vibrant green grass provided a lovely contrast to the Boxers' fawn coats, and both Gus and Benny looked stunning against the natural backdrop.
Our next stop was not far away to a park bench overlooking the famous lake in the middle of Fagan Park. This time, I captured both posed and candid images of just Niki with her Boxer boys together. The nearby ducks and geese swimming in the lake captured the dogs' attention, making it easier to get their adorable expressions looking directly at the camera.
For our final location, we took a short walk to the top paddock. Here, Niki and her dogs posed on a fallen log both posed and candid. I love capturing both types of images as I find clients love the typical "smile look at the camera" and moments of them just interacting with their pets.
We Started wrapping up the session with action shots, allowing Gus and Benny to run around on their long leads. I tend to do action images last, especially on a warm afternoon, because if a dog becomes exhausted or over slobbery it wont matter as the session is soon over. But, lucky for us, it did cool down a bit towards the end, so we concluded with some final photos of Niki with her beloved dogs in the grass, a perfect end to a delightful day.
Niki was thrilled with the session results and chose the largest collection of products, including a custom 8" x 10" photo album, a 30" x 20" framed canvas and all digital files from the session.
