Emily and Ace's photo session at home

There’s a special connection that forms between a rider and their horse, one built through trust, time and shared experiences. Emily and her 25-year-old Arabian x Welsh Pony, Ace, are the perfect example of that bond.

Our session took place at Emily’s family property in Wilberforce, beginning with a series of striking black background portraits that really highlighted Ace’s handsome features. Even at 25, Ace is full of presence and personality, and it’s clear he’s living a life full of purpose and partnership.

Emily and Ace have been a team for nearly seven years, competing at a high level in mounted games, a fast-paced and technical sport that requires incredible communication between horse and rider. Their connection is built on years of teamwork and trust, and capturing that in photographs was a real privilege.

The weather had us holding our breath leading up to the session, with storms the day before and hot, humid conditions on the day. But the skies held out and gave us just enough time to create a beautiful gallery of images that reflect Ace’s spirit and Emily’s deep affection for him.

Emily selected the 20 digital file collection along with a beautiful 8" x 12" acrylic block to display one of her favourite portraits, a forever reminder of her beloved pony and their incredible journey together.
